Dapper's is a delightful and affordable place to dine
They have everything from soup and sandwiches to pasta and steak.
By Jessica L.

Has your family ever decided to eat out but couldn't agree on where to go? If you said yes then here's the place for you. Dapper's Family Restaurant and Pancake House is a great place to go with the whole family.

Dapper's is located at 980 Lake Street in nearby Addison. They have everything from soup and sandwiches to pasta and steak.

Dapper's also serves breakfast all day long consisting of a variety of egg dishes and pancakes.

The lunch menu is similar to the dinner menu only with slightly smaller portions.

My family visited Dapper's on December 5. We were seated almost immediately when we arrived. The waitress took our drink orders and we decided what we wanted to have.

My mom had the cream of chicken soup with rice.

My dad had the Sliced Chicken Deluxe, which is a sliced chicken breast on a pita with lettuce and tomato. His sandwich also came with soup and fries.

My sister ordered spaghetti off the kids menu and I had a cheese omelet, which came with hash browns and toast.

While we were waiting for our meals, we were served fresh bread and rolls. The servings at Dapper's are large and we soon got full. My sister brought her leftover spaghetti home.

As you pay at the cash register, they offer lollipops to the kids. My family loves going to Dapper's and I'm sure you'll like it too.

I rated Dapper's on a scale of 1 to 5 as follows:
Food: 5- Everyone's meal was great.
Atmosphere: 4- Nice, but not very exciting.
Service: 5- The service was very quick.
Cleanliness: 5- This is one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to.
Value for Money: 5- The portions were huge and our family of four ate for about $20.
Kid Friendliness: 3- The waitress seemed a little crabby to my sister and me.
Overall Experience: 5- We had a great dinner and will visit Dapper's again.

You Can't Take It With You
Money can't buy you love
By Dan B.

You Can't Take It With You, performed at Driscoll High School, on Nov. 9, 10, and 11, 2001, takes place at the home of Mr. Vanderhof (Bryan Fong) in 1937.

He lives with his daughter Penny Sycamore (Angle Kopiczko) and, his three granddaughters, Alice, Essie, and Pauline (Heather Hutson, Jackie Sonnenberg, and Mary deLutio).

Alice falls in love with her boss's son, Tony Kirby (Greg Niecestro). Tony's family is very rich and Alice's family is somewhat crazy. Alice and Tony want to get married so Alice plans a party so the two families can meet.

Tony tricks his family into going on the wrong night so Mr. and Mrs. Kirby (Jonathan Woodin and Jill Rymut) can see how a real family who love each other lives.

While they are there, G-Men come and arrest all of them for making fireworks in the basement. Even though the Kirbys are innocent, they are arrested too. Now Alice doesn't want to marry Tony because their families are too different.

Tony explains it does not matter how different they are, but Alice still refuses him. Tony becomes mad at his dad because he cares too much about money and does not pay any attention to his family.

Mr. Kirby also does not want Tony to marry Alice because her family is so different. Mr. Vanderhof explains to Mr. Kirby that it is more important for Tony to be happy than for him to have money because "you can't take it with you." In the end, Tony and Alice get married.

You Can't Take It With You was funny because of the actor who played Mr. Kolenkhov (Albert Trotto) who is Essie's dance teacher. When he first meets Mr. Kirby, he wrestles him to the ground. And when teaching Essie, he does funny dances. The whole cast did a good job.

Monsters, Inc.
"You won't believe your eye!"
By Trisha H.

If you ever imagined that there were monsters under your bed or in your closet after the lights go out, you will finally understand how it all works.

After your lights go out at night, there is another world just beginning the day behind your closet doors. Every day, Mike and Sully go to work to "can all the screams they are capable of in one day." During this process they can't touch the humans they scare because a human child's touch is toxic to monsters.

Monstropolis faces new problems as Monsters, Inc. begins. The children are getting harder and harder to scare. As a result, much responsibility falls in the hands of top scream producer Sully, a big blue monster, and his best friend and co-worker Mike Wazowski, a short, green, one-eyed monster.

As always in movies there must be a bad guy, which in this case is Randall Boggs. His goal is to defeat Sully by collecting more screams.

Their competition grows until one night Randall leaves a closet door open. A human child finds that open closet door and walks into the monster world that no human has ever been in.

To try to catch a human child would be hard for these monsters because as we were warned before, only one touch could kill them.

Monsters, Inc. was another success by Disney/Pixar animation. Animation and voices slide together perfectly. Cheerful, bright colors were used to catch your eye, and they sure did. This movie was made to bring joy to all ages!

Another appealing feature was that the monsters world seemed to reflect our world a lot. Every morning the monsters got up and went to work, and after work they would go out to eat at a restaurant. Also they had TV commercials and slogans for Monstropolis like "We scare because we care."

I highly recommend Monsters, INC. to viewers of all ages.

Friends are forever on T.V.
By Sunny B.

Everybody needs "Friends." Lisa Kudrow (Dr. Dolittle 2), Jennifer Aniston (Rock Star), Courtney Cox Arquette (Scream), Matt Le Blanc (Lost In Space), Matthew Perry (The Whole Nine Yards), and David Schwimmer (Six Days, Seven Nights) star in this highly rated comedy series.

"Friends" is about six young people living in New York City's Greenwich Village. Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) plays the ditsy, flaky chic. She has a really difficult family history but makes hilarious jokes about it.

Phoebe also gave birth to triplets for her stepbrother, Frank and his wife Alice. Maybe that's why she's so flaky.

Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) plays the fashion girl. She is also pretty ditsy. We first meet her when she storms into the gang's coffee house in a wedding dress after leaving her fiancé at the altar.

She and Monica Gellar (Courtney Cox Arquette), the neat freak, are best friends. Monica is now married to Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) who plays the dry wit who is never at a loss for words.

Joey Tribbiani (Matt Le Blanc) plays the soap star currently on "Days of Our Lives."

Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer) Monica's brother , is the dinosaur freak. Ross has been divorced three times although he is only thirty-three.

No matter where they are, the friends always end up at the heart of Greenwich Village, Central Perk Coffee House.

The gang is currently on its eighth season. We know that Rachel is pregnant with Ross's child.

Since its debut in 1994, "Friends" has received 33 Emmy nominations. It has also been nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and has won one.

"Friends" airs on Thursdays at 7:00P.M. on NBC.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Definitely not for Playstation 1
By Evin S.

If you don't own Playstation 2, don't try Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 on Playstation 1. Although Tony Hawk Pro is labeled to play on Playstation 1 as well as Playstation 2, the graphics are much worse than both Tony Hawk 1 and Tony Hawk 2 for PS1.

Tony Hawk 3 does not have all the characters of 1 or 2. Furthermore, you can't build anything in the skate park editor that you can't already build in Tony Hawk 2.

You cannot design your own loops on Tony Hawk 3 using PS1. PS1 also does not include special features of the black top mode, like caspers, primos and one footed nose manuals.

The game does not have the promised special features when played on a PS1. If I were you, I would rent the PS2 hardware with the game. Beware, three is not always the charm!

Name: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Stars: 0 (out of 5)
Age: Teen
What I played it on: PS1

ARCANUM ranks as one of the best and most original RPGs
By Paul P.
Op-Ed Editor

Arcanum: of Steam and Magick Obscura is an openended RPG (Roll Playing Game) that combines the deepthinking strategy of Baulder's Gate and the hack n' slash frenzy of Diablo.

It also brings a new element to the table. You can choose to play as a wielder of magick, (with a 'k') or as a technologist. The game is set in the standard Tolkeinesqe fantasy world with a twist.

The year is 1871 and people have invented crude guns and trains. You can also choose to create items like Molotov cocktails and exotic things like spectacled helmets.

Arcanum has an atmosphere of freedom from the very start when you can choose a background that ranges from "son of hero," to "raised by a snake trainer" to "sheltered only-child."

The story is about you, the only survivor of the crash of the HMS Zephyr when the first airplanes shot it down. A monk approaches you at the crash and fills you in on a prophecy. You are led to destroy the most evil villain in the world.

The day/night transitions make you feel as if time is really progressing. You also have the option to do almost anything you want. It's the most open-ended game since Deus Ex.

Example: Save a dog from being beaten and he joins your team.
Another neat thing that was added to Arcanum was that every time you level up, you get a point that goes toward things like: Full heal, critical hit on next attack, full stamina, and enemy critical miss.

Arcanum is one of the best and most original games I've played in a long time. The only problem I had in the game was the completely untextured player models. I'm not saying the graphics are bad, though. The environment is gorgeous.

I would definitely recommend Arcanum: of Steam and Magick Obscura.

Mario Cart for Game Boy Advanced
It leaves the competition behind
By Nikki A.

Mario Cart, for Game Boy Advanced is one of the best games available. From the sound to the options, it stands far above the competition.

The graphics are comparable to the N64 game. It is unbelievable how such good graphics fit on that small screen.

The sound is clear. The game plays a number of tunes, which is one of its best qualities.

The control is easier if a slow character is chosen. The fast ones are a little harder to control.

A hint for the game, if it's a simple racetrack, fast characters are best to choose (Toad or Peach). Harder tracks are easier to complete with Donkey Kong or Wario, but Bowser is too slow!

The game play is great. There are many options to choose from. There are different kinds of characters, circuits, levels and settings.

The fun factor is really good. Mario Cart, for Game Boy Advanced doesn't get boring. There are a wide variety of options. The game is even more fun if an optional cable connector is used, which enables multi-player game play.

The price range is $20-$30.
The number of players is one, unless a cable connector is used, then a few people can play.
The challenge is not adjustable.
Overall this is an exceptional game.
